A Perfect Family Weekend: What to Do with Kids at Kasauli Hills Resort
Planning a family trip to the mountains is one thing. Planning one where children are genuinely engaged, parents actually relax, and everyone arrives home closer and happier than when they left — that takes a little more intention. At Kasauli Hills Resort, we have spent years crafting a family experience that works for all ages, and we think we have found the formula.
Here is your guide to a perfect family weekend at Kasauli Hills Resort.
Friday Evening: Arrive and Settle In
After the drive from the plains — usually from Delhi, Chandigarh, or surrounding cities — families arrive typically in the late afternoon or early evening. Our golf cart welcome whisks everyone through the resort, and children are often immediately enchanted by the ride itself. Point out the pine trees. Ask the kids if they can spot any birds. By the time you reach your room, the mountain air has already started its work.
Dinner at Brook N Pines offers something for everyone. Kids menus, comfort food classics alongside Himachali specialities, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere where no one will mind if the children are a little loud.
Saturday Morning: Exploration and Play
Wake up early enough for the morning mist. Step onto the balcony with the children and watch it lift from the valley — a natural magic trick that costs nothing and impresses everyone.
After a generous resort breakfast — omelettes, parathas, fruit, juice — the day opens up beautifully. The resort’s badminton court is ideal for a family game, and morning mountain air makes even moderate exercise feel rewarding. Table tennis tables are available as well, and there is something particularly joyful about watching a parent try to keep up with an energetic ten-year-old on a ping-pong table at 6,000 feet.
For families with older children, a guided nature walk through the resort’s pine forest introduces them to the local bird species, mountain plants, and the sensory world of the Himalayas. Our staff are happy to identify what is what, making it an educational experience that does not feel educational.
Saturday Afternoon: Day Trip or Day In
Several families choose to spend Saturday afternoon exploring Kasauli town and its surroundings. The short drive to Monkey Point offers panoramic views that children find genuinely impressive. Gilbert Trail is manageable for most children above 7 or 8 years and provides a rewarding sense of adventure without genuine difficulty.
Other families prefer to stay in, using the afternoon for pool time, games, or simply reading while the kids run on the lawn. The resort provides plenty of space for unstructured play — something increasingly rare and valuable for children who spend most of their lives in structured environments.
Saturday Evening: Live Music and Bonfire
On weekend evenings, our live music programme creates a magical atmosphere that families adore. Children dance. Parents sip their drinks and watch their children dance. Grandparents smile at both. The bonfire crackles. The stars emerge one by one.
This is often the moment families talk about most when they get home. The evening under the stars, the music playing, all of them together without screens and schedules, actually present with each other.
Sunday Morning: Leisurely Farewell
Sunday mornings at the resort are gentle by design. A slow breakfast, a final walk, perhaps a last game of badminton. Reluctant packing. Promises to return.
Most families do return. And every time they arrive, we see the children lean out of the car window before it has fully stopped, already calling out their favourite spots.
That is the best review a family resort can receive.
